Roar for Freedom by AlectorFencer Roar for Freedom by AlectorFencer
Pfeeeew!!! *whipes off sweat and shakes hands* :D
I FINALLY finished this picture!! This is the first picture, which took me over 60 hours...no joke. I'm really proud of the result but I don't know how you see the colours. My display is quite strange, but whatever...

An adult Steef is roaring on a high rock in a nice dusk. He yells for his freedom and to keep someone off his patch :p

Done in Photoshop 7.0 with a old mouse, which tormented my hand - more than 60 hours, even if it doesn't look so :p

The character "Steef" is property of Oddworld Inhabitants (c)

Yeah, hihi. In this picture, you can only see his arms. The body is already out of the painting. What you can see from the other parts of his body is one of the four hind legs.

Photoshop is one of the best pixelprograms with which you can create many things and work in a very high quality. Sure, there are many diffrent types of art programs but Photoshop is one of them. It's especially good when you want to work with photos. :D

Now why haven't I commented on this yet? It's been sitting under my nose since. . . Well, since I came back to Deviantart and updated my site. :P It's one thing to look at it and say "Oh, that's awesome" but not take any further action, and another to look at it and actaully tell the artist that it's awesome (even if I can't actaully say anything more then what's been said already). :) So here we are.

Enough rambling about nothing. I suppose people are right in the way they say it's Ifrit-ish. . . Maybe it's the fact that his beard is tied in a pony tail, and he has a thick, furry mane and massive teeth. . . Though apart from that he doesn't really resemble Ifrit. He looks like Stranger. :P

Anyway this one is a masterpeice - From when I first saw this a while ago I've always really, really loved the detail, from the tendril of spittle inside his mouth, the crimson redness of his eyes that contrast against the earth tones of his horns and fur, the fur and horns themselves. . . Particuarly love his expression and the way you've made the sunset glow behind him and inbetween his arms. Beautiful. . . Worth every minute of the 60 hours you put into it. :P

*hugs tight* Nice one, Claudi. <3 :) Although one question - What motivated you when drawing him?

I always love your comments. You make reading and answering on several drawings and paintings more interesting. :)
I first heard the name Ifrit when I read comments on this picture, really. I have never played Final Fantasy before and I'm not really interested in it...so I was wondering about that. :XD:
And yeah, I'm glad you see him as Stranger, though this is a random Steef because Stranger's hair is light brown and his fur is a little bit darker. Somewhat like a negative. :p

Thanks a lot for the compliment. It makes me smiling over that picture. :)
Since you know that shine and eyes come last on pictures I draw (because they are like the really last detail I want to put and I always enjoy doing this), the spittle and eyes are actually the action in that picture. Not only that the wind comes directly in his face and blows his fur back.
The movement of the mane, the facial expression and the spittle on his teeth and tongue are evidence of that this Steef probably ran up to the point where he is standing and opened the mouth to roar for his freedom.
Woah, what a description. LOL

When I played Stranger's Wrath first, I was fascinated by the strength these creatures have. I only saw a few pictures of Steefs with a similar expression like on this picture. Just that they were already dead and their heads hung at Sekto's bureau as trophies.
So, I unconditionally wanted to make a picture, which shows a Steef with the same strong expresssion - but alive.
The roar was in my head when Stranger roared in the last movie and this gave me a gooseskin. That was really amazing.

With other words, the motivation was there and I couldn't stop working on that picture, though it was nasty with the mouse I used there. :p
*hugs back tight* Thanks again, Eddie ^.^
